Editorial & Independence Policy

How we decide what's listed, how tools are ordered, and exactly what vendor membership does and does not influence.

Last updated: June 2026

FP&A Tools is an independent directory for finance teams choosing FP&A software. We make money in part from vendor memberships, so we hold ourselves to a clear, public standard about what that money can and can't buy. The short version: membership affects visibility and richness of a listing, never ranking, search results, or any assessment of quality.

What paying does and doesn't buy

Membership can affect

  • Whether a tool has an enhanced profile (logo, fuller description)
  • A clearly-labelled “Featured” placement within its category
  • Inclusion in the homepage logo marquee
  • Whether the vendor receives buyer leads who opt in
  • Newsletter or content exposure (Partner tier)

Membership never affects

  • Search and filter ordering in the directory
  • The shortlist our questionnaire produces
  • The accuracy or fairness of how a tool is described
  • Whether a tool appears at all (free listings are open)
  • Any comparison outcome between tools

How tools are listed

Any credible FP&A software can be listed, free of charge. We aim to cover the market broadly rather than only the vendors who pay. We add tools based on relevance to finance and FP&A teams, not on commercial relationships.

How tools are ordered

Directory ordering and search results are driven by the buyer's filters and query, not by who pays. Where a tool is shown as “Featured,” that placement is always labelled as such, so you can see exactly what is a paid placement and what is not.

How we describe tools

Profiles, categories, “best for” notes and attributes are written by our team from public information and product research, in our own words. We aim for accuracy and fairness whether or not a vendor is a member. Vendors can request corrections to factual details, but they don't get to write their own marketing copy into the directory or remove fair, accurate information.

Why we don't publish a single star rating

We deliberately don't show one headline star score per tool. A single number looks authoritative but is easy to dispute and hard to source consistently, and a high score built on a handful of reviews can look misleadingly equal to one built on hundreds. Instead we describe each tool on the dimensions finance teams actually evaluate, category, best-for, deployment, AI, integrations, implementation effort and pricing tier, and point you to dedicated review sites (such as G2, Capterra and Gartner Peer Insights) for crowd ratings.

Leads and your data

When a finance team asks for a shortlist or an introduction and opts in to be contacted, we may pass the relevant details to the vendor(s) involved. We don't sell data, and a vendor doesn't receive your information simply for being a paying member. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Our standard, in one line

If a finance leader can't trust that the directory is honest, a listing here is worthless. Keeping rankings independent is how we protect that trust, and the value of every membership.
